You ask what it is that makes us forget benefits received? It is our extreme greed for receiving others. We consider not what we have obtained, but what we are to seek.
Seneca
Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, pleasing, commendable, if there is any excellence and anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Paul of Tarsus
It takes focus and effort to hold onto your achievements and the good things in life. Doing so, though, can drastically improve your training and success.
In sports, today’s culture, and plain human nature we too quickly forget the positives and focus on the negatives. At one point it likely kept us alive remembering where the predators were or how we got hurt, but now we let little things take over our minds. If you receive 20 emails with good news and one negative message which of these do you focus on the rest of the day? Definitely the negative.
This pull to the negative will eventually kill your motivation unless you focus on your successes to drive you as well. By realizing all you have achieved and taking a second to recognize it you will create an addiction of sorts to winning. Only by beating levels now and then do you get addicted to video games. If you failed every time you would give up like I do on Super Mario.
So today pat yourself on the back instead of just focusing on what you haven’t accomplished yet. You have many things to be proud of yourself for. Use those achievements for fuel to help you reach your next goal.
