Greedily Enjoy Your Friends

Let us greedily enjoy our friends, because we do not know how long this privilege will be ours. Let us think how often we shall leave them when we go upon distant journeys, and how often we shall fail to see them when we tarry together in the same place; we shall thus understand that we have lost too much of their time while they were alive.

Seneca 63

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone?

Ecc 4.9-11

Having close friends is both an asset and something to enjoy. We likely all had best friends from childhood that we no longer see (not counting facebook stalking). This may make you feel sad to some degree, but it should simply teach us to truly value the friends we currently have. Cherish those memories, but also realize the friends in your life currently need to be enjoyed all the more.

There will likely be a time when you no longer talk as much or are as close. Some of these friendships may end abruptly with dramatic fashion. This does not mean we should let the time slip away right now. Reach out to those you are close with. Lean on them for support when times are hard and enjoy their company.
